noir

photo credit & creative director: Coco // on film: Pauléka // featuring  Brittany & myself

I felt nothing but honor to work with these three ladies to create this work. Coco had the vision to capture the essence of black women, the essence that we have in relation to the sun, in relation to love and admiration we have for each other.

I love the color of my skin, the fullness of my lips, and the kinks in my hair.....but it hasn't always been that way. As a very young girl, I wasn't always comfortable in my skin. My mom would call me her beautiful chocolate drop, over and over until one day that words rang true to me in my head. I wouldn't be the confident woman I am today if it wasn't for my mom pouring all her love into me. Now, well I walk with my crown held so high!  I have never asked to hear someone say to me, "oh you're pretty for a black girl!", "you're pretty for a dark-skinned girl" or "Can I touch your hair?"  I didn't get to choose to be a black woman, but I wouldn't change it for anything in the world!

Thank you Coco, Pauléka, and Brittany for creating this beauiful black girl magic!
